Notes for: William S. Burdine / Bodine
From Ronny Bodine:
William Bodine was bapt. 6 Oct 1799 at the Moravian Church, Richmond County. William and Rosanna Bodine were buried in the Moravian Church Cemetery. Rosanna Bodine's death on 6 Feb 1836 and her funeral the next day was recorded in the registers of the Moravian Church as "Rosanna Bodine, wife of William; died of inflamation of the lungs and was buried in the Encl. Gr." The death of William Bodine on 7 Sept 1855, was recorded as "Wm. Bodine, of Centreville, aged 50 years +; buried aside of Mr. S. Swift." In 1831, at the baptism of his daughter Margaret, William Bodine was recorded as being of Warwick County, Virginia. In the probate of his brother John's estate in June 1859, it was noted that William S. Bodine, decd. brother, left George, Abraham and Oakley, in Calif. and Margaret, wife of Edwin Salter, of Forked River, N.J. The baptismal register of the Moravian Church records William Bodine's wife and mother of his children as Rosanna, nee Mattes. In the 1890 history, "A History of Monmouth and Ocean Counties," p. x, compiled by his son-in-law Edwin Salter (1824-1888), Salter writes of his wife's family: "William Bodine, son of James and Margaret Bodine, who m. Rosanna Willets, had children: George James who m. Emeline Williams, William Oakley, Margaret, who. m. Edwin Salter, and Abraham." It would appear that Rosanna Mattes was married to a Willets prior to her marriage to William Bodine.
The 1830 census of Warwick County, Virginia records William Bodine as head of a household that included 2 males and 1 female aged 0-4 years which match the births of his 3 eldest children.
His daughter Margaret, wife of Edwin Salter, was born in Warwick County, Virginia.
