At Barnegat, November 28th, 1888, by Rev. A. H. Brown, assisted by Rev. O. W. Wright, Joseph R. Newton, of Philadelphia, and Miss Ella Bodine, daughter of Cornelius C. Bodine, of Barnegat.
Joseph and Ella Newton were living 1900 in Woodbury where Joseph was engaged in the manufacture of shoes.

NEWTON.---Suddenly, on June 5, Ellie Bodine, wife of Joseph P. Newton. Funeral services, at her late residence, in Woodbury, N.J. Friday, June 8, 1906, at 11 A.M. Special car will leave for Moorestown, N.J. where services will be held in the Episcopal Church, 1t 2 P.M.

The first funeral cortege by way of trolley left Woodbury on Friday morning when the remains of Mrs. Joseph Newton were conveyed to Moorestown by that method. The palatial car Almonesson, of the Camden, Gloucester & Woodbury railway, was used, and the drappery [sic] inside was changed to black.

Joseph Rogers Newton, 72, for years active in Democratic circles in New Jersy and a retired Philadelphia shoe manufacturer died yesterday at his home, 38 Newton avenue, Woodbury, after a long illness. He had been a resident of Woodbury more than 50 years. The business conducted by Mr. Newton under the name of Joseph R. Newton Co., for more than 49 years, is still in existence in Philadelphia. Mr. Newton retired Jan. 1, 1930. Mr. Newton was for a number of years a member of the State Democratic Committee. He was for several years chairman of the Gloucester County Democratic Committee and was a former Woodbury councilman. He was also active until several years ago when he retired politically in state Democratic affairs. Mr. Newton was born in Burlington the son of Samuel and Sarah (Rogers) Newton and spent his boyhood in the vicinity of Vincentown. His wife, the former Ellie Bodine of Barnegat died in 1906. There were no children. Mr. Newton was a member of the Manufacturer's Club, Philadelphia, Friendly Sons of St. Patrick, the New Jersey Society of Pennsylvania, the Boot and Shoe Manufacturers Association and a director of the First National Bank Toms River. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday.
