John Hendershot is unidentified, but could be the son of Hendrie, born about 1763. He was born on May 25, 1784 in Sussex County, New jersey. His family probably moved to Bethel Township in Bedford County, Pennsylvania. He went to West Virginia, perhaps Wetzel Wood County. In 1815, John moved to Morgan County, Ohio. He is listed on taxables there in 1816. In 1818, he moved to Xaniz, Greene County, Ohio. By 1840, he was at Logan County, Ohio and he was living in 1850 in Marion Township in Clinton County, Ohio.
Catherine Bodine was his wife and cousin.

Barbara Rudy found John's will. It was dated May 1, 1858 in Kosciusko County, Indiana. It mentions sons "Squire", Samuel, and John as well as his wife, Nancy. Barbara thinks this is his second wife. His first wife would have been Catherine Bodine. No Bodines are mentioned in the will. Squire and John signed it.
Another researcher, researching Elsey, said John Hendershot is the son of Peter and Sophia Brewer Hendershot. No proof was given for this. W.E. Hendershott didn't think it was important to get their death dates to see if there is a will.

Hi Dave, William E. Hendershott who wrote the book only says that John Hendershot born in 1784 Sussex Co., NJ. probably moved to Bedford County ( really Fulton Co.) but he may have just guessed at her maiden name. Alfred Hendershot who wrote the first book says John Hendershot is the s/o Peter and Sophia (Brewer) Hendershot who lived in Greene Co. PA . Peter's will filed 24 Oct 1827 age 57. He didn't think the place was important or where he is buried.
Thanks for your help and if I find anything I will pass it along to you.
Barbara
