Notes for: George Bodine

This is the George buried near Abraham and Barbara Bodine in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery near Hughesville, Lycoming Co., PA. That George was aged 50 y, 5 m, 23 d when he died on September 23, 1867. He lived in Hughesville. His wife was named Euphemia. She is buried near or next to him. She died on September 9, 1853 at age 29 y, 5 m, 27 d. In the same grave, I believe, is a Hannah L. Bodine who died on September 7, 1853. I wonder if Euphemia had her and then died two days later?

This family is discussed in Edson Payson Bodine's article "The History of the Branch of the Bodine Family Founded by Cornelius Bodine, A Soldier of the Revolution, and a Pioneer of the Lake Country of Central New York" (1897). It is not a well-documented article, but the later genealogies are probably pretty accurate. His earlier genealogies may have more mistakes. He says this George Bodine had two children: Mercy Ella (Boak) Bodine and Hannah E. Bodine.

In the Muncy Luminary of March 6, 1847 it is said that they got married on "Thursday evening last."

My son, Robert Bodine Reuther, asked me some time ago to write to you in answer to a request you made for some information. I am sorry to be so late in getting it to you. The cemetery was full of snow for most of the winter and hard to get to the graves.

My aunt, Fan Hawley Bodine Dunlap died on Oct. 15, 1971 and is buried in the Muncy cemetery.

My brother, John Phillips Bodine, died on Sept. 7, 1931 from rheumatic fever. He was 12 yrs. old. Born Aug. 7, 1919.

I believe you asked about a George Bodine. The only George we can find was born 4/1/1817, died 9/22/1867. Father was Abraham, Mother Mercy Paxson. Another tombstone has a George but the dates are badly worn. We believe he died as an infant.

I hope this helps you.
Ruth Bodine Reuther
