The Down family was living 1860 in Clayton Township, Gloucester County where William was employed as a clerk. Widowed in 1865, Margaret Down was living 1870 in Clayton Township with her four youngest children, running the household while her son, Albert, 20, clerked in a store. Gloucester County death records note the death of William G. Down, clerk, age 41, born in Blackwoodtown, son of Benjamin Down, on 3 Aug 1863 in Glassboro.

Children: Sarah A. (c1848), Elbert B. C. (c1850), Isabella T. (5 June 1852), Benjamin F. (c1857), Margaret B. (1860).
