Notes for: William Coffin
See "Coffin Family," no. 7 for more details.
From Ronny Bodine:
William Coffin was the owner and first settler of the villages of Hammonton and Winslow. Hammonton was named after his son John Hammond Coffin and Winslow after his son Edward Winslow Coffin. Being largely interested in the manufacture of glass, in the 1820s, he established the Winslow Glass-Works, around which grew the town of Winslow, now in Camden County. He served as the first postmaster of Hammonton from 1827 until his death. William and Ann Coffin were buried in Colestown Cemetery, near Haddonfield, New Jersey. See his biography in "Biographical review: containing life sketches of leading citizens of Camden and Burlington Counties, New Jersey," Boston: Biographical Review Publishing Co., 1897, p. 335.
