Notes for: Solomon ("Sol") Bodine

The "Guntersville Democrat" from Tuesday, June 28, 1927 said that Solomon Bodine died "Tuesday of last week." He died from "heart trouble" or "appoplexy." He was survived by his widow and four daughters. "Mr. Bodine was a good mand and earned the respect of all who knew him." See the Clements site at www.my-ged.com for info on this family.

From Blount County, Alabama Marriage Records:
Solomon Bodine AND Sarah Bynum were married 11 Oct 1885. [Note: Sarah was the daughter of Asa and Mahalia (Scott) Bynum.]

Solomon Bodine reported his occupation as farmer in the 1900-1910 censuses of Marshall County. In 1930, Sarah Bodine, now widowed, was living with her daughter Juletta at Grassy, Marshall County.

Sarah E. Bodine died 6 Dec 1950 in Marshall County.

Mrs. Sarah E. Bodine, age 84 years, died at her home at Grassy Dec. 6 almost suddenly. She had been bedfast since May but not seriously ill for some time, and was thought to be lots better the morning she died. Her daughter, Mrs. Grady Baugh, with whom she made her home, had carried her breakfast in to her and she had eaten some of it. Mrs. Baugh had gone out for something and when she returned found her dead. Mrs. Bodine was born in Blount County, in 1866. In 1885 she was married to Sol Bodine and they lived in Browns Valley 6 miles from Guntersville. In 1935 she sold her home there to R. A. Brown where Lakeview Dairy now is. She then bought a home near Grassy and lived there until 1945. Since that time she has made her home with her daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Grady Baugh who live at the Pink Tidmore place near Grassy. She was of the Primitive Baptist Faith. Mrs. Bodine is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Bertie Baird, Albertville 5, Mrs. Ila Huckaby, Guntersville, Mrs. Mrya Baugh and Mrs. Juletta Brown, Arab 1; a grandson, whom she reared, Hugh Littleton, of Galveston, Tex., 9 other grandchildren; 2 brothers Edward Bynum, Guntersville and George Bynum of Blountsville. Funeral services were held Dec. 7 at Rocky Mount church by Elder Haden Copeland. Burial was in the adjoining cemetery, Pruitt's Brown-Service Funeral Home of Arab directing.
