Evidently Effie was married to _____ Spencer, who abandoned her before their daughter, Margaret, was born. Then years later, she married George Meerdinck. It was her daughter, Margaret B. Spencer, who is buried in Site 4 in Lot 601 of Union Cemetery. Effie worked at the Treasury. Margaret was an artist. One day she decided to wax the wooden floors of their home in Poolesville, Maryland and put an unopened can of floor wax on the electric stove to warm up. It exploded, fatally burning Margaret.
