James Bodine registered for the World War I draft in September 1918 in Fannin County. He died during the great influenza epidemic. Following his death, his widow Beulah married Samuel A. Turpen with whom she was living in Fannin County in 1920. Her son by her 1st marriage, Jessie Smithey, age 16, and her three children from her 2nd marriage to James Bodine, Mattie 13, George 10, and James 5, were living with the couple.
