Notes for: John Gazaway ("Gas") Bodine

The 1900 census says he was born in Sep. 1859, but his tombstone says 1858. I'll bet the real date is Sep. 1858.

I had a John G. Bodine listed here who seemed to match up with a John Gazaway Bodine I found at FamilySearch.com (IGI). This is a guess, but I'm pretty sure about it. He was listed with Franklin P. Bodine, his brother, in the IGI marriage information.

John Bodine lived with his family in McClellan Township in Jefferson Co., IL and was engaged there in farming.

From Ronny Bodine:

John and Mary Bodine, who lived all of their married life in Jefferson County, were buried in South Hickory Hill Christian Church Cemetery, Jefferson County. Their grave marker bears the dates of 1858-1928 for James and 1857-1937 for Mary. In 1900, their dates of birth were recorded as Sept 1859 and Oct 1859, respectively. James Bodine was James S. Bodine in 1880, Gasaway Bodine in 1900, Gas Bodine in 1910 and J. G. Bodine in 1920. The Decatur "Review" of 25 Nov 1928 noted that Mr. and Mrs. T. J. Bodine and Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Bowman would be attending the funeral of their uncle J. W. (sic) Bodine in Mount Vernon on that date. In 1930, 'Mary Bowdine' aged 72, was living with her stepdaughter and her husband, Mary and Charlie Milliner, in Jefferson County.

The obituary of Claude A. Arnold (born 13 Nov 1903) in The Register News of Mount Vernon of 16 March 1966 names his parents as Erven and Nancy Jane (Wooden) Arnold and half-siblings Ira Bodine, J. S. Bodine and Mary Dobbs. Erven Anderson and Nancy Jane Arnold were buried in South Hickory Hill Cemetery, McClellan Township, Jefferson County and were later moved to Oakwood Cemetery.
