Notes for: Andrew Jackson ("Jack") Bodine

I had his name as Andrew Bodine, but Sam Bodine said that his line of descent was "Daniel (sic).....James, James, Jr., James S., Andrew Jackson, Seth Monroe, Clarence E., Samuel." I'm assuming that this is correct, but I haven't seen any proof. Neither did I have any children for this Andrew before I got this message.

Sam Bodine wrote the following:

I don't know what year the divorce occured, but this family is not in the 1870 Census for Jefferson County. It was always told that the boys grew up in Texas. So for the sake of story, let's assume that the boys went to Texas with their dad and other members of the family. Margaret Emily remarried to Lorenzo D. Munsell. Later census reports of Jefferson County show other children in that household with Bodine surnames. I assume they were younger children by "Jack." Well, Andrew Jackson married a second time to Mary Ellen Watson who had been born February 24, 1844 in Missouri and they had a family. This family is listed in the 1870 Census of Jefferson County, Illinois. Neither William Addington "Uncle Add" or Seth Monroe, my granddad, are in that Census. I'm assuming they were both in Texas. I'm trying to find out where they were in Texas. I think they might have been in San Saba County with other relatives, but that's another part of the story. Both Andrew Jackson and Mary Ellen Bodine are buried in South Hickory Hill Christian Church Cemetery in Jefferson County, Illinois. Mary Ellen died March 24, 1903.

The Illinois Statewide Marriage Index says that an Andrew J. Bodine married Emily Derrickson in Jefferson County on October 9, 1861. An Andrew Bodine married Mary E. Watson in Macon County on March 7, 1864. Then there is an Andrew J. Bodine listed as having married a Mary E. Watson in Jefferson County on August 15, 1866. I'm not sure which of these is correct. And an Andrew J. Bodine then married Ida Loman in Jefferson County on May 4, 1888. These records may all refer to this Andrew Bodine. (Maybe Ida married one of his sons?) The 1900 Census of Jefferson Co., IL says that they had been married 45 years. This would match the 1864 date better than the 1866 date. I'll go with that for now. It also shows that this Andrew must not have married again in 1888.

I found Andrew Jackson Bodine in the 1880 Census of McClellan, Jefferson Co., IL. He is married to a Mary Bodine. Five children are listed. I'm not sure which of those are actually the children of Andrew and his second wife, Mary. All the children say their mother was born in MO. This would indicate it was Mary. However, the oldest child, Andrew, is 17. He could have been younger or I'm wondering if this Andrew is actually a nickname for William Addison Bodine or it could be Seth Monroe Bodine. Both could have been 17 in 1880. Anyway, this data is confusing. I will assume that Ida is a daughter of Andrew and Mary. She was 14 in 1880 which means she could be the daughter of Mary.

Subject: Regarding Andrew Jackson Bodine

Have been working on the family history of Andrew Jackson Bodine. The following is copied from the 1900 census:

1900 FEDERAL CENSUS IL, Jefferson Co, Roll 308 Book 2, P 112a (genealogy.com), ED 73, P3B, 5 June 1900, Line 87, 53/54:
Bodine, Andrew J Head W M July 1836 63 Married45 yrs TN TN TN Farmer literate Own/Free/Farm 54
--- Mary E/Wife W F Feb 1844 56 Married 45 yrs 7 children, 5 surviving MO MO TN literate
---Thomas/Son/W/M/Aug 1880/19/Single/IL/TN/MO/Farm Laborer/6mo unemployed/literate

This information might clear up the marriage history of Andrew Jackson Bodine as he is shown in 1900 living with Mary E. My records show Mary Ellen Watson Bodine passing away 24 Mar 1903.

Hope this helps!

Cathy

There is an Andrew and Ellen Bodine in the 1870 Census of Jefferson Co., IL. He is 36 (IL) and she is 26 (MO). They have three children listed: Jesse (9, IL), Ida M. (5, IL), and Alpha (fem., 3, IL). Who is this Jesse? This confuses things even more.

From Ronny Bodine:

Andrew and Margaret Bodine were divorced in May 1862 and in 1870 Margaret married Lorenzo Dow Munsell (1828-1907) with whom she was still living 1880 in Jefferson County. In 1880, Andrew is named Andrew Jackson Bodine, age 44. He was living 1900 in Jefferson County. His wife, Mary, stated she had borne 7 children of who 5 were then living. In 1910, now widowed, he was living with his son Thomas Bodine in Jefferson County. Margaret was the daughter of William and Rachel (Bratton) Dirickson. Mary (Watson) Bodine was buried in South Hickory Hill Christian Church Cemetery, Jefferson County. The death of A. J. Bodine Sr., of 636 E. Orchard, was recorded in J. J. Moran and Sons Funeral Home Payment Book for 29 April 1916.
