Subject: James, Mattie and Mabel Bodine
I have this picture of James Carney Bodine, Mattie and Mabel Bodine from Joplin, MO. They must be related to me though the Carney line. Can you tell me how they may be related to Robert Carney? 1873-1974.
Thank you for any information you can provide.

My answer is that Robert Carney is their maternal uncle.
I had his wife's name as Dixie Marie Carnie, but BR had Dixie Maria Carney. Find A Grave info has Mariah.
From Ronny Bodine:
James and Dixie Bodine were buried in Fairview Cemetery, Joplin, Jasper County. Dixie was the daughter of Robinson and Amanda (Snodgrass) Carney. The Bodine family was living 1900 in Galena, Jasper County where James worked in the mines. Dixie stated in 1900 and 1910 that she had borne 7 children of who 6 were then living. In 1930, Dixie Bodine was living in Joplin and employed as a housekeeper. Two of her children were living with her and her son Edward was living next door. See her Missouri death certificate, no. 1952-28445.
James Bodine went to Joplin, Mo. to work the lead mines after his marriage. He made his home there until his death in 1905. He had an accident in 1905 which resulted in his death at the age of 47. He went out to look for a calf and the fog was so thick that he could not see and as a result the horse he was on fell into an old mine shaft. He and the horse were later found by a search party. The horse lived several more years, but James contracted pneumonia and died soon after that.
