Notes for: John Allen Bodine

Dianna Alaniz thinks they had a son Harry who was born in 1878 and a baby who died in infancy about 1859. I have a Harry Allen Bodine who was born in Ashtabula, Ohio on November 16, 1878. I wonder if this is the same person. The John from Ashtabula married a Verna J. Tubbs. I do not have a father for this John. After finding out that Lula May was born in Ashtabula, I'm going to guess that Harry is their son.

From Ronny Bodine:

From Hillsdale County, Michigan Marriage Records:
John A. Bodine, 23, barber AND Mary A. Crist, 22, both natives and residents of Ohio, were married 4 Dec 1870 in Amboy by Milo Sewill, J.P. Witnesses were Sarah A. Edinger of Amboy and Morrell Crist of Ohio.

From Wayne County, Ohio Marriage Records:
John A. Bodine AND Lucy K. Lance were married 3 Oct 1876 by J. H. Owen, M.G.

According to the family bible of John and Esther Bodine, their son John A. Bodine was born 28 June 1847 and was living with them as Allen, age 3, in Wayne County, Ohio in 1850. In 1860, John A. Bodine was age 13, living with his parents in Baughman, Wayne County, Ohio. He cannot be located in 1870, but reappears in 1880, as J. A. Bodine, age 33, a barber, living with his wife Lucy in Norwalk, Huron County, Ohio. Marriage records of Wayne County, Ohio show that on 3 Oct 1876, John Bodine married Lucy K. Lane and their eldest child, Harry Allen Bodine, was born 16 Nov 1878. In 1900, John A. Bodine, born June 1847 in Ohio, a barber, lived with his wife Lucy and their 9 children in Venango County, Pennsylvania. In 1910, John and Lucy Bodine still lived in Venango County. John reported that he and Lucy had been married 32 years, that it was the 1st marriage for each and that of 10 children borne to Lucy, 9 were still living.

It can hardly be coincidental that another John A. Bodine lived at the same time and place. On 13 July 1864, John A. Bodine, age 18, a native of Wayne County, Ohio, enlisted at Columbus, Ohio as a Private in Company F, 18th U.S. Infantry from which unit he deserted 29 Nov 1865. In the 1890 Veterans Census of Hillsdale, Hillsdale County, Michigan there is Amanda Williams, wife of John A. Bodine, Private, Company F, 18th U.S. Infantry. In 1900, Amanda Williams, age 51, lived in Hillsdale, Hillsdale County, Michigan working as a wash woman. Her household included her sons Morill (Sept 1871) and Earl Bodine (Oct 1873), Earl's wife Stella (Jan 1869), her son William H. Williams (May 1883), daughter Etta Dell (Oct 1881), and her mother Margaret Filson (Sept 1822). Amanda reported she was divorced and had borne 4 children, all then living with her.

The marriage records of Hillsdale County, Michigan record the marriage on 3 Oct 1900 of William T. Tucker, age 49 and Amanda W. Williams, 51. The record notes Amanda's maiden name as Criss, that she was born in Ohio and has been married twice previously.

From Michigan Death Records:
Mary Amanda Tucker, born 27 Sept 1848 in Ohio, dau. of John & Margretta (Fougherty) Criss, died 22 May 1901 in Hillsdale, Hillsdale County and was buried in Oak Grove Cemetery.
