Notes for: Harold Wesley Bodine
The following query has to do with this Harold Bodine. It was from Stephen Bodine.
I am trying to find out information on my grandfather and his family. His name was Henry (Harold?) W. Bodine. I believe he was born in Medford Oklahoma about 1900. He married my grandmother, Joetta Irene Unnerstall in 1923. They had one son (my father) William who was born in June of 1924. Just after he was born they split up (about 1925?). When my father was born they lived in St. Louis Missouri. Does anyone have information on the Bodine's of Oklahoma or Missouri that my be related to my family?
See BK #19102.
Charles Bodine (son of Ralph Leroy Bodine) said that Harold did have one son by his first wife. He'll try to find out more info.

Any ideal how I could find Charles Bodine as mentioned above to see if anyone knows the name of Harold's first wife and their son?
Thank you so very much.

I believe that Harold and Grace Dunlap had a son, Jarrold Rae Bodine, b.1940 in Kansas. The census lists Harold and a "Vera" ?? in Wichita, Sedgwick, KS living on Emporia North. Two others are in that location. Richard and Carol Ann Abraham (step children). I belive Grace was married before to someone named Abraham.

Hello Stephen,
Dave Bodine copied your email to me and see my reply to him below. I looked a bit further and thought I would give you some leads to follow up on that might lead to identifying Vera.
So, Vera was living in 1940 as the wife of Harold Bodine with two children from a previous marriage, Richard and Carol Ann. I find that her first husband was Elwyn Maple Abraham, born 24 Aug 1912, died 9 May 1996 and buried in Dunlap Cemetery, Rose Hill, Butler County, Kansas with his 2nd wife, Margaret Berlin Beard 1919-2002, whom he married 1942 in Eastland Co., Texas. They appear in the March 1953 census of Butler, Hickory County, Kansas as E. Maple Abraham 40, Margaret 33, Richard E. 20, Carol Ann 17, Michael 5, Stephen A. 3, Belinda 2.
Son Richard was Richard Elwyn Abraham, born 16 Jan 1933 and died 28 May 1983 in Olympia, Thurston Co., Washington and is buried in the same cemetery as his parents. He married Carol J. Brie 1955 in San Diego, CA.
Daughter Carol Ann Abraham married John Walter Fowler, 18, of Waynoka, Woods Co., OK on 28 Nov 1953 in Woodward, Woods County, Oklahoma when her father Elwyn M. Abraham gave his permission for his 17-year old daughter, Carol Abraham of Leon, Butler Co., KS, to marry. John Walter Fowler was born 5 Jan 1936 in Missouri and died 10 Aug 1995 in Bakersfield, Kern County, California.
Perhaps further searching will turn up a record that names Vera as wife of Elwyn and mother of Richard and Carol. If so, please let us know so we can better ID Vera.
Good luck,
Ronny Bodine

Unmarried to VERA MAE DUNNING.
Email of 30 Sept 2022 from Burl D. Abraham.
Ronny, I can answer many details on Vera Mae (Dunning) 1912-2000. Her mother was supposed to be half Blackfoot Indian. She married first Howard E. Mitchell 1907-1961 from Nebraska, one child. The son was adopted out. He was in California looking for biological family. I don't recall the year off hand. Married 2nd my father Elwyn Maple Abraham 1912-1996 two children Richard Elwyn 1933-1983 and Carol Ann 1936 still living. Vera and my father divorced 1939 grounds of adultery. A son born out of wedlock Jerrold Lee (Bodine) Hilton 1940-2010. I have his birth certificate my mother obtained. I am sure he was adopted by the names on certificate. He is in the 1940 federal census in Wichita Kansas with my half-brother Richard Elwyn and half-sister Carol Ann. I am confident Vera and Harold were never married. Two other children born outside of marriage: Patty Sue and Mickey. Vera Dunning (still going by last name of Abraham) married 3rd in 1946 Lawrence Curtin 1917-2004. No children though they raised Patty, Mickey and 3 nephews of Vera's. Patty Sue 1941-2017 was ring bearer at the wedding. Mickey was born 1945. Vera and Lawrence were married 54 years. Both are buried in Arlington National Cemetery. I have original divorce records and other original records. My father got his children in the divorce which was unusual at that time. Vera had a bad life until she married Lawrence. 6 children by 5 different men. People can change!! I do have details on all of this information. According to Mickey many secrets died with Vera. She even told me her step father Lawrence did not know.
