Obituary, Contra Costa Times (Walnut Creek, Calif.) of 19 April 2015.
Roberta Bodine, Brentwood.
Roberta Bodine passed away peacefully after a short illness on April 5, 2015. She was nintey years old. Born on January 15, 1925, in Pacific Grove, California, Roberta was the second daughter to parents Elbert and Carol Walker. She grew up with siblings Wynette and George, and recounted many fond memories of carefree childhood days in Big Sur. In 1946 Roberta married her childhood friend Harvey Bodine. The couple moved to San Lorenzo, welcoming their first daughter, Carol, in 1948 and Linda in 1951. The family spent summers at Lake Berryessa, boating, water-skiing and forming friendships that would last a lifetime. Roberta worked as a registered nurse at many different facilities, ending her career at juvenile hall in Alameda County. After retirement, she returned to school, earning a P.H.D. in Psychology from Rosebridge University in 1990 at the age of 65. She became involved with the Juvenile Justice Committee, working to uphold standards of juvenile hall facilities throughout California. Roberta and Harvey spent many happy years traveling the country in their motorhome, with their dog Rags at the helm. Snorkeling in tropical locations was a favorite pastime they shared with their daughters and sons-in-law. The couple moved to the Summerset Community in Brentwood in 1999. Here they formed new friendships, which proved invaluable after Harvey's death in 2003. Roberta remained active in the community, and loved bowling, playing poker, and traveling with friends and family. Her dogs Molly and Megan kept also kept her busy, and brought her much joy. Roberta is survived by her daughters, her sister, 7 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. Services will be held at Summerset 4, The Orchards, 770 Centennial Pl., in Brentwood on Saturday, April 25, at 12:00 noon. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Bruns House, a hospice home that provided Roberta with excellent care and comfort in her final days. Please mail donations directly to 2849 Miranda Ave, Alamo, CA 94507.
Note: Although Roberta's obituary states she was born in Pacific Grove, which is in Monterey County, her official California birth record reports she was born in Santa Clara County.
