Notes for: Jacques ("James") Poillon, Capt.
Jacques Poillon left France in 1671 for Holland in order to travel to America. It is said that Jacques was a native of Liebessait, County of Saint Pol, Sur Fromoise, Pas de Calais, France. The spelling "Sur Fromoise" was probably a typographical error and should be "Sur Ternoise." The village is now called Pierremont.
He built a house in Great Kills on Staten Island in 1695 that survived until 1996.
One online Flatbush marriage record says this:
- 1677 24 Oct; Isaac Poulion, ym liv Bedford; Adriana Crosseron, yd liv Midwood, both from Zale in Walsh Flanders, liv in Br.
See the Historical Landmark study that was done on his possible house called "Documentary Study of 361 Great Kills Road (Poillon-Seguine-Britton House). It has some good history of the family.
