On 5 June 1917, Earl Joseph Bodine registered for the World War I draft in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He reported he was born in Artesian, South Dakota, was single and a student. In 1930, Earl Bodine, 37 and single, lived in Modesto, Stanislaus County employed as an advertising salesman.

TULARE (Tulare Co.) Dec. 30.---A group of relatives from Visalia met in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Earl J. Bodine here and surprised the Bodines on their first wedding anniversary. Among the unexpected callers were Mr. and Mrs. Euclid Bellefeuille, Frances, Phyllis and Claude Bellefeuille, Janice Bodine, Mrs. Carl Spencer and Ray Bodine.

Earl J. (Tex) Bodine, former advertising manager, died early today in the Tulare District Hospital. Bodine, 79, who lived at 296 E. Estate Ave., was taken to the hospital Monday morning. Bodine, who earned a degree in journalism at Toulouse, France, after serving in World War I, worked for newspapers during his early manhood, serving a stint on the Tulare paper in the early 1920's, at Modesto and El Centro among others. He was serving as advertising manager of the A-R in the mid 1940s and also had a walnut grove east of Tulare which he later sold to Harold Jarvis. He was born at Afton, S.D., and graduated from Marquette University before going into the Army in World War I, serving in France. After receiving his degree at Toulouse he joined his family which had moved to Visalia and ranched east of there, and began his career in newspaper work. He later moved to the Santa Clara area where he had a pear orchard, selling that to go into real estate in San Jose, returning to Tulare County and settling first in Exeter about four years ago, and then moving to Tulare about 18 months ago. It was while working at Modesto he met his first wife, Betty, who died while they were living in the Santa Clara area in 1956. He was later married to his wife, Mildred Burns, former Tulare school teacher, who survives him. In addition to his wife he is survived by two sons, Jean Bodine, San Jose, and Neal Bodine, San Francisco; six grandchildren, four brothers, Paul Bodine, Porterville; Leo Bodine, Lindsay; James Bodine, Cayucos, and Anthony Bodine, San Luis Obispo, and five sisters, Mrs. Genevieve Bellefuille and Mrs. Zita Kleinhans, Visalia; Mrs. Eva Foucht, Exeter; Mrs. Janice Engleking, Cayucos, and Mrs. Charlotte Spencer, Santa Paula. Funeral services will be announced by Miller's Tulare Funeral Home.

Recitation of the rosary by members of the St. Aloysius Altar Society will be at 4 p.m. Sunday at Miller's Tulare Funeral Home for Mildred M. Bodine, 96, Tulare, who died Tuesday at a Visalia hospital. Another rosary will be recited later that evening at 6:30 p.m., also at the funeral home. Mass will be at 11:30 a.m. Monday at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, 125 E. Pleasant Ave., with burial at Tulare Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. She was born in Winnebago, Minn. In 1957, she married Earl Bodine in Carmel Mission. She was a teacher in Minnesota, Iowa, Washington and California for over 36 years. Her favorite class to teach was the third grade. In 1969, she moved to Tulare from San Jose. Her husband died in 1972. She was a member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church and Altar Society, American Association of Retired Persons, the Retired Teachers Association, Tulare Woman's Club and Tulare Garden Club. She was also the past president of S.P.R.S.I. No. 124 of Tipton. She is survived by two stepsons, Jean Bodine, San Jose, and Neil Bodine, Oak Grove; and six grandchildren.
