Obituary, The Monmouth Inquirer (Freehold, NJ) of Thursday, 14 March 1912.
William H. Bodine, Sr., for over thirty years a respected resident of Long Branch, died Saturday morning, March 9, 1912, from an attack of diabetes. The funeral services were held Tuesday morning at the Church of Our Lady Star of the Sea at ten o'clock, Rev. Dr. William P. Cantwell officiating. Interment was made at Mount Carmel cemetery, West Long Branch. Mr. Bodine was the son of William and Elizabeth Bodine, and was born at Montrose, in Freehold township sixty-seven years ago. He is survived by two brothers, Cyrenus and James Bodine, of Long Branch, a widow and three children. The latter are Elizabeth Youmans, of West Long Branch; J. R. Bodine, of New York; and Garret Bodine, of Long Branch. The deceased moved to Long Branch from Colt's Neck thirty-three years ago. For several years he was in the employ of Garret and Roze Conover, who were leading farmers in their day. Mr. Bodine married Miss Kelsey. daughter of Robert and Ann Kelsey, of Colts Neck, forty-two years ago. Mrs. Bodine is several years younger than her husband, being in her eighteenth year when she was married.
The Red Bank Register of 7 May 1930 reported a birthday party given by Mrs. J.H. Youmans in honor of her mother Mrs. Mary Bodine of Long Branch. This indicates her birth month of Sept as reported in the 1900 census is incorrect as so many others were. As this newspaper is published only on Wednesdays, it seems likely her birth month is April.
