Mary Ann Piper of Chapel Hill died in her home July 9. She was 90 years old. Born in Paris, Mo., she graduated with distinction from the University of Missouri 1931 with degrees in journalism and history. She worked as a feature writer for the Kansas City Star until her marriage in 1946 to journalist Robert Lawrence Piper of Cherokee, Kan. She received a master's degree from Butler University, and worked as a primary school teacher in Indianapolis, Ind., public schools until she retired. The Pipers moved to Chapel Hill in 1987. Survivors include a daughter, Ann Hart Ericson; two grandchildren who live in Chapel Hill; a stepson, Robert Piper of Shawnee, Kan.; a stepdaughter, Elaine Reussner of Leawood, Kan.; and four step-grandchildren. A graveside funeral service will be held for the family on Friday at Chapel Hill Cemetery.
