Notes for: Thomas ("Tom") Jefferson Bodine

I had his name as Thomas Augustin Bodine. RB said it was Thomas Jefferson Bodine. I'll go with that.

Thomas J. Bodine, 36, of Oklahoma City, born in Indiana AND Josephine G. Schott, 28, of Perry, born in Kansas, were married 28 Nov 1912 at Perry by Voogobu Osz (?), Rector, in the presence of Elma Bodine.

Tom Bodine served as County Clerk for Oklahoma County from 1 Jan 1917 to 1 Jan 1923. In Jan 1928 he was appointed as Delinquent Tax Collector for Oklahoma County. Thomas Jefferson Bodine registered for the World War I draft on 12 Sept 1918 in Oklahoma City. He reported his occupation as County Clerk for Oklahoma County and that his next of kin was his wife Josephine Bodine. In 1930, Thomas and Josephine Bodine lived in Oklahoma City where Thomas worked as a municipal accountant. Thomas and Josephine Bodine were buried in Fairlawn Cemetery, Oklahoma City. The couple had no children.

Rosary for Thomas J. Bodine, 74, pioneer Oklahoma auditor, will be read at 8:15 p. m. Wednesday in Smith and Kernke funeral chapel. Requiem mass will be said at 0:30 Thursday at Our Lady's Cathedral with burial in Fairlawn cemetery. Bodine was active for many years in county and state political circles. He died Sunday night in his home, 1117 NW 33. Death was caused by a heart ailment. He was born at St. Mary's Woods, Indiana, and came to Oklahoma City with his parents during the 1889 run into Oklahoma. The family settled on a farm six miles southeast of the city, near what is now Bodine City. His uncle, T. J. Bodine, owned the land on which that city is located. Bodine was elected clerk of Oklahoma county in 1917 and served until 1933 before being defeated by 73 votes In a primary election recount. He was head deputy in the register of deeds office two years and then was employed in the state examiner and inspectors office. He was in the state auditor's office from 1944 until 1946. Bodine was a member of Our Lady's Catholic cathedral, a fourth degree man in the Knights of Columbus, a member of Woodsmen of the world and the Third Order of St. Francis. He is survived by his wife, Josephine, of the home, and one sister, Elma Bodine, 3308 N Lake.
