Notes for: Robert Wickliffe, Jr.

In Robert Wickliffe Jr.'s family Bible, a Fanny W. (or M.) Young is also listed on the page for marriages. I'm not sure who she was, maybe a niece. She was born January 25, 1819. She married Jesse "Jess" Reno on January 27, 1842. Jesse was born April 25, 1817. Fanny died on June 16, 1843 "in the 25th year of her age."

Here is a message I received about what I think was originally Robert Wickliffe, Jr.'s Bible. There were two Bibles mentioned. I believe the other one originally belonged to Jacob P. Bodine. I am not putting those records here. The pages from the this Bible and the Jacob P. Bodine look exactly alike with even the page numbers from marriages, births, and deaths being the same. I imagine that Robert Wickliffe, Sr. gave his children a gift of a family Bible when they were married. At least one of these went to his son, Robert Wickliffe, Jr., when he married Agnes Young. And at least one other one went to his daughter, Jane Wickliffe, when she married Jacob P. Bodine.

Mr Paul Reynolds Wickliffe, of New Jersey, has given the Harbin Memorial Library photo copies of sam WICKLIFFE and BODINE family Bible records. The original Bibles are gone, with only the records remaining, and they seem to have come from several books. The original pages are owned by Mrs. Emily Wickliffe Walker, now (1989) a resident of Maple Manor Nursing Home.

There seems to be some duplication from different pages, but it will appear here as on the various pages. Some punctuation will be added.

With the family record - probably the Wickliffe Bible - were two pages of what would appear to be the birth records of slaves. They may be of interest and help in preparing a family record, so are published herewith.

(Dave: I have added and edited to what was in this email message. I now have copies of the original pages and have made some corrections as well as adding an entire page. This message only contained pages 2 and 3. I added page 1.)

End of message.

I didn't copy this Robert's will, but I do remember reading it. If I remember correctly, his slaves were supposed to go free after his death. I think he even provided money for them to sail to Liberia. It was a fascinating will and now I wish I had copied it all. I hope to do that in the future.
