Mrs James R. Vander Waal

Funeral services for Mrs. James R. Vander Waal, 75, of Pella, were held were held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 23 in the Trinity Reformed Church, the Rev. Wayne Hall officiating.

A family prayer service was held in the church chapel before the funeral service by the Rev. Henry Rosendaal.

Mrs. Vander Waal died Dec. 20.

Christine Elizabeith Ter Louw was born Nov. 6, 1893 at Sandridge, a daughter of John and Annie (Kool) Ter Louw. She married James R. Vander Waal on Jan. 29, 1920. They farmed near Kirkville until 1920, then moved to a farm six miles southeast of Pella where they lived until 1958, when they moved into Pella.

After moving to the farm near Pella, they joined the Third Reformed Church and later transferred to Trinity Reformed when that church was organized. Mrs. Vander Waal taught a class for young women for 20 years and was a member of several of the church's women's organizations.

Before her marriage, she taught for two years at Sandridge, then took nursing training in Mercy Hospital, Des Moines, and did practical nursing until her marriage.

Surviving are her husband, three children, four brothers, three sisters and five grandchildren.

Casket bearers John E. Ter Louw, Robert Van Hemert, Norman Roorda, Elmer Vander Waal, Herbert Vander Waal, and Ralph Vander Waal.
