Notes for: Francis Wycliffe

This family comes from An History of Richmondshire, in the North Riding of the County of York; together with those parts of the Everwicschire of Domesday which form The Wapentakes of Lonsdale, Ewecross, and Amunderness, in the Counties of York, Lancaster, and Westmoreland, by Thomas Dunham WHITAKER. London: Longman, Hurst, Rees (and others), 1823. 2 volumes. Here is the info given there on this family:

3. Anthony
and
4. Francis;
both living and had issue in 1610.

The Pearson family book (92-93) says this may be the Francis Wycliffe who made his will on April 12, 1610 while he was a prisoner at York Castle and died shortly after. He refused to take the anti-Catholic oath and was imprisoned in York Castle between 1606-1610.

This Francis is not listed in Flower's Visitations (p. 353) as one of the sons of Francis and Jane. He is not listed in Poulson's v. 2 of his book on Holderness (p. 239) either. That is a less-documented book, though.

The following comes from Anne B. Musser from the Wickliffe pages at Genforum:

I have run into a problem with Francis Wycliffe. The info. that I have says that he was a prisoner of York Castle where he died May 24, 1610. His will dated April 12, 1610 is on record in York registry vol. 31, folio 382. I was wondering if anyone had seen his will or has gotten a copy of it.
