From Ronny Bodine:

Obituary, Asbury Park (NJ) Evening Press of 12 Feb 1969.
West Long Branch---Wayne Bodine, 16, who survived being shot and critically wounded four years ago by his father, died yesterday of natural causes at Jersey Shore Medical Center, Neptune. Wayne and his brother, Mark, 8, were both shot in the head and chest by their father, Thurston, in what police termed a murder-suicide. Bodine, on the night of May 31, 1965, shot and killed his wife, Florence, and then turned the gun on his sons and himself. The shooting took place in the family's home at 540 Dow Ave., Ocean Township. Wayne was initially blinded and paralyzed from his wounds and he remained in critical condition until mid-July. Mark remained in the hospital until November. The two boys then went to live with their paternal grandfather, Thurston Bodine, at 10 Wall St. here. Mr. Bodine and Mark are Wayne's only survivors. Wayne was a Boy Scout and was a member of the Old First Methodist Church here. The Woolley Funeral Home, Long Branch, is in charge of arrangements.
