Van Buren Bodine registered for the World War I draft on 5 June 1917 in Decatur, Illinois. The Bodine family was living 1920-1930 in Decatur, Macon County where Van worked as an iron works laborer in 1920 and a electric welder in 1930.

Mrs. Van B. Bodine, 1308 East Cantrell street, died in the Mayo clinic in Rochester, Minn., Wednesday, with heart trouble and complications. She was born in Lexington, Ky., Aug. 1, 1892 and came to Decatur from Covington, Ky., in 1908. She was married to Van Bodine in Clinton, Sept. 9, 1911. She was a member of the Third United Brethren church. Besides her husband she leaves her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Daniel W. McCarty, and a daughter, Mrs. Mary Lee Wilson, all of Decatur. She also leaves a brother, R. H. McCarty, Decatur. The body will arrive at the Dawson & Wikoff funeral home today. Funeral arrangements are incomplete.

Van Buren Bodine, 57, of 1308 East Cantrell street, died at 9:25 p.m. Monday in the Wabash Employes hospital where he had been ill of pneumonia since Thursday. He was born in Jefferson county near Mt. Vernon, Nov. 24, 1889, and came to Decatur with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Jackson Bodine at the age of seven. He was an electric welder in the Wabash locomotive shops for some time. He was married to Mary Lee McCarty in Clinton Sept. 9, 1911. She died in the Mayo clinic at Rochester, Minn., March 31. He was a member of the Third United Bretheren church and the Modern Woodmen of America. He leaves a daughter, Mrs. Marylee Wilson of Decatur, and his mother, Mrs. Ida Belle Bodine of Decatur. The body was taken to the Dawson & Wikoff funeral home and will be removed at 7 p.m. today to the family residence, 1308 East Cantrell street, where friends may call. Services will be conducted in the Third United Bretheren church at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday. Burial will follow in Fairlawn cemetery.
