Retired from the U.S. Navy as a chief petty officer James M. Nece, ABFC, retired, 61, 866 Priestly Ave., Lawrence Park, died Wednesday, April 19, 1995, at Hamot Medical Center. He was born in Wesleyville, Jan. 9, 1934, son of the late T. Myron and Linnie Hill Nece. He was a lifelong member of Wesley United Methodist Church where he served as an usher and sang with the choir. He was employed with the Iroquois School District and was a bus driver with Laidlaw, driving the special needs children for eight years. Prior to returning to Lawrence Park in 1981, he was a 23-year veteran with the U.S. Navy, retiring at the rank of chief petty officer. During his Naval career, he served in the Korean War aboard the U.S.S. Tarawa and the Vietnam War for three tours aboard the U.S.S. Coral Sea. He was the recipient of the Vietnam Gallantry Cross, two Bronze Stars and several other citations. He was a member of the Commodore Perry Chorus, Erie Chapter and the American Legion Carl Neff Post 571. He loved hunting, singing and golf. Survivors include his wife, Judy Berdine Nece; two daughters, Mrs. Craig (Sharee) Hairston and Mrs. Buddy (Kelly) Powell, both of Irmo, S.C.; a sister, Beverly McCurdy of Lawrence Park; eight grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Friends may call at the Dusckas Funeral Home, 2607 Buffalo Road, today from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m., and may attend a service at Wesley United Methodist Church, Station Road and South Street, Saturday at 3 p.m. with the Rev. E. David Streets officiating. Burial with full military honors will be at Wintergreen Gorge Cemetery.
