Letters of administration were issued on the estate of the late Albert H. Bodine and among the heirs was his daughter "Sister Jane Bodine, of Lenox, Illinois."

Sister Jane Bodine died at 2:35 p.m. on March 30, 2017, in Mother Theodore Hall, St. Mary-of-the-Woods. She was born in St. Mary-of-the-Woods Village, on Sept. 9, 1919, to Albert H. Bodine and Nelle Hamilton Bodine and was baptized Anna Jane. Sister entered the Congregation of the Sisters of Providence on Jan. 9, 1937, and was given the name Sister Janet. She professed Final Vows on Aug. 15, 1945. She earned a bachelor's degree in physics from St. Mary-of-the-Woods College and a master's degree in chemistry from the University of Notre Dame. Of her 80 years as a Sister of Providence, she ministered in education for 39 years, in schools in Indiana and Illinois. In 1970, she launched the United Southside Community Organization Adult Education Program in Indianapolis and was its director for eight years. Beginning in 1978, she gave three years of service in Congregation leadership and then gave six years to beginning and directing what has become the Office of Mission Advancement for the Congregation. It was through Sister Jane's fund raising efforts that Karcher Hall was built, now part of Providence Health Care. Sister Jane was a true pioneer in the development profession. After she left the congregational ministry, she directed a development education program for congregations of women religious. With the support of Lilly Endowment Inc. and working in conjunction with the Leadership Conference of Women Religious, she enabled numerous religious communities to begin and/or strengthen their development programs. In her later years of ministry, she served as the coordinator of the Ladywood High School (Indianapolis) Alumnae and gave two years of leadership to the Hispanic Education Center in Indianapolis. In 1999, she retired to the Motherhouse, where she continued her work with the alumnae and gave service in a variety of areas. Beginning in 2011, she dedicated herself totally to the ministry of prayer. Sister Jane dedicated enormous energy for projects that she believed in. She was a tireless leader, always concerned about those she was working with and those that she was serving. Sister Jane is survived by a sister, Ruth Lamb of Terre Haute; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a sister, Kathleen Osborn; and five brothers, Robert, Allen, Maximillian, Joseph, and John Bodine. The wake is Monday, April 3, 2017, from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. in the Church of the Immaculate Conception with the wake service at 4:30 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial is Tuesday, April 4, 2017, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Daniel R. Hopcus presiding. Burial is in the cemetery of the Sisters of Providence. DeBaun Funeral Homes and Crematory assisted with arrangements.
