Notes for: William P. Berdine

We are really not sure who this William Berdine's father is, but the best possibility so far seems to be this Jasper Berdine. Take that with a grain of salt, though.

He and his wife had nine children: five girls and four boys. Supposedly he was killed in Virginia. Their house still stands in South Apalachin, New York. They went to Virginia in 1870.

I have given this much thought. Nicholas left Cattaraugus County after July 1842 for Indiana, whereas Jasper stayed behind. Although William could have been the son of either, as both men had a son born 1826-1830, it would seem he was too young to leave behind when Nicholas moved to Indiana. Unless, Nicholas left around 1845 or 1846 or William stayed behind with his uncle. I am swayed to move him to Jasper with a comment that there is no solid evidence as to his father at this time...

Mrs. Maurinia Berdine, aged 80 years, died Wednesday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. James Darling, at Little Meadows, Pa. She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. James Darling and Mrs. John Williams, and three sons, William Berdine of Little Meadows, Peter Berdine in the west, and John Berdine of Warren, Pa. The funeral will be held Friday at 11 o'clock a. m. at the South Apalachin baptist church. Burial at the South Apalachin cemetery.
