Notes for: Eliazor ("Eli") A. Bodine
Note from Vernon V. Vinzant, 913 Stafford, Casper, WY 82609 (Nov 2005): Eli Eleazar--both are Biblical names. Eli was a High Priest and Judge of Israel in I Samuel. Eleazar (Greek=Lazaros, Latin=Lazarus) was the third son of Aaron. Before Aaron died on Mt. Hor, Eleazor was invested with his sacred garments, and succeeded him in the High-Priesthood. Based on this and because his son is identified in the 1900 census as a "Jr.," his name appears to be Eli Eleazar Bodine--although the middle name may have been spelled "Eleazor." However, his marriage record and the 1880 and 1910 census indicate his name as "Eli A"--perhaps a rendition of Eli-Azor?
Eli is listed in the 1850 Census of Edgar County, Illinois, as being born in Bullitt County, Illinois. There is no such county in Illinois, so he must have been born in Bullitt County, Kentucky. All of the children born through 1849 were listed that way, although probably some of them were actually born in Illinois; so the information in the census on place of birth of his generation should probably be considered incorrect. Another source said he was born in Paris, Illinois. This is in Edgar County.

the publication date.

E. A. Bodine of Wellington spent yesterday in the city on a business visit.
In 1920, Mary Bodine, age 67 and widowed, lived in White Cloud, Iowa Township, Doniphan County, Kansas with her unmarried sons Charlie and Jack. Living next door was her son E. E. Bodine with his family. Very likely, after the death of her husband, she accompanied her son, Eli on his move to Missouri.
From the Missouri Death Certificate of Mary Elizabeth Bodine, widow of E. Bodine, born 13 April 1846 in Paris, Illinois, of unknown parents; died 21 March 1929 in Adams Township, DeKalb County. Buried in Maysville, Missouri, E. E. Bodine of Weatherby, Missouri, informant.
