Billy Joe Phillips had been a resident of Dayton, Texas for the past eight years. Billy was born in Mexia, Texas December 25, 1929 and went to be with his Lord and Savior June 16, 2006. He resided in Mexia, Texas and enlisted in the military after graduating from Mexia High School. He served two years in the military and while in the service he married Shirley Ann Hartley. Once he was discharged he moved to Baytown and worked for different chemical plants as an operator retiring from Lubrizol in 1986. He was Past Master of the Sampson Lodge 231, a member of Anahuac Lodge 995 and Past Master of the Old River Lodge 1422. He enjoyed doing his Masonic Lodge work in his retirement. He is preceded in death by his wife of 30 years, Shirley Ann Phillips, and granddaughters; Jo Ann Phillips and Danielle Phillips. He is survived by two sons; Larry James and wife Tina Phillips, of Baytown, TX, Mark O'Neil and wife Lori Phillips, of Pasadena TX, brother; Robert O'Neil Phillips of Pasadena, TX and sister; Joy Crawley and husband Bud of Mexia, TX, sister-in-law Lorraine Allen of La Porte, three grandchildren; Billy Wayne Phillips of Lometa, TX, Mary Elizabeth Phillips of Baytown, TX and Virginia Grace Manis of Indiana, two great grandchildren; Haley Kaylnn Phillips of Birmingham, Al and Graci Leigh Brundige of Indiana, numerous nieces and nephews, and host of friends. A memorial service will be held Tuesday June 20, 2006 at 7:30 p.m. at the Second Baptist Church in Highlands. Home-going arrangements are under the direction of Earthman Funeral Directors. Mary Temple Durdin, 88, of Cove passed away at her home on Sunday, July 1, 2018. She was born in San Augustine, TX on June 19, 1930, to Mary Emelia and Sidney James Bodine. Those close to her knew her as Temple. True to her name, Temple projected strength and love which was evident through her resilience and entrepreneurial spirit and above all her love for God and family. Temple put her Lord and family first and never passed on an opportunity to spend time with her kids and grandchildren. Her door was always open to family and friends. Temple graduated from Barbers Hill High School in 1949 and married the love of her life, Norman Gene Durdin in 1952. Together they had two children, Nancy and Luke. She was a hard worker and an inspiration to those around her, and after the sudden loss of her husband, she opened several successful businesses which included a beauty salon, rental properties, and a florist. She was passionate about politics, religion, genealogy, and history and always welcomed new ideas and opinions with love, compassion, and acceptance. Her hobbies included reading, spending time with family, sewing, cooking, and trying new things whether it was a new hair color or new recipe. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Wallace Crew and son and daughter-in-law, Luke and Juliene Durdin, all of Mont Belvieu; brothers, King Bodine of Rockport and Sidney Bodine of Mont Belvieu; grandchildren, Emelia Lee Durdin Lamarr and husband, Darin of Austin and Julia Temple Durdin Owens and husband, Stephen of Mont Belvieu; great grandchildren, Reese Owens, Madison Lamarr, Ryan Owens, and Luke Lamarr; and numerous nieces and nephews. Her family will receive friends at Navarre Funeral Home on Thursday, July 5, 2018, beginning at 9:00 a.m. with a funeral to follow at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Karen Tyler officiating. Burial will follow at 1:30 p.m. at the Tetter Cemetery in Humble.
