Notes for: Joseph ("Joe") Herbert Bodine

"Joe" graduated from Center High School in Shelby County then spent a short time in college in Nacogdoches before leaving for employment in Houston. He began his employment a short time later with SWBT and remained with them until the time of his retirement. He has been in the Grayson County area since the mid 50's and will probably remain there. After his retirement from SWBT, he decided to enter politics and has served Grayson County as a JP for the last several years.

Eva (Gandy) Bodine was the daughter of Archie Felton and Ruby May (Boyd) Gandy. Following her divorce from Joseph Bodine she married 2ndly, Stanley S. Gorrell on 2 Aug 1974 and was divorced from him on 1 Sept 1983 in Dallas, Dallas County. Betty Jo (Rich) Bodine was the daughter of Joe and Marie C. (McCoy) Rich.

WHITEWRIGHT - Betty Jo Rich Bodine was born July 2, 1931 in Whitewright, Texas to Joe Rich and Marie Christine McCoy Rich. She died Friday, July 22, 2016 at Mullican Care Center in Savoy, Texas at the age of 85. Betty graduated from Whitewright High School in 1947. Shortly after graduating she married Ross Alexander in Whitewright; he preceded her in death on April 20, 1956. She later married Joseph Herbert "Joe" Bodine on February 15, 1957 in Dallas. She and Joe blended their families together and made a home. She was a wife, a mother, a grandmother and sister. She was greatly loved and will be missed. Betty was active in her community. She and Joe were selected as Whitewright Citizens of the Year and they also served as Grand Marshall for the Whitewright Parade in 2012. She was a secretary for the Whitewright High School for 22 years, a long time member of the Bridge Club, a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She was a long time member and was very active in the Baptist Church. Betty is survived by husband of 59 years, Joe Bodine of Whitewright; daughter, Suzanne Goodfriend of Whitewright; son, Carlos Bodine and wife Dianna of Carrollton; son, Brad Alexander and wife Brenda of Melissa; son, Bruce Bodine and wife Pam of Bells; son, Bart Bodine of Whitewright; sister, Laura Rich of Richardson; grandchildren, Michael Todd, Rachel, Tonya and Sonya, Stephanie, Angela, Leslie, Jonathan, and Marka; 24 great-grandchildren; special friends, Marcus Pedersen and Sidney Parker. She was preceded in death by her parents. Funeral Services will be held 2 p.m., Monday, July 25, 2016 at Bethel Baptist Church, Whitewright, Texas. Officiating the service will be Rev. Rodney Stanford and Rev. Roland Ouellette. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Whitewright, Texas. Pallbearers will be Michael Todd Bodine, Jonathan Alexander, Jamie Lawrence, Mark Russell, Shane Daugherty, Brad McGee, Jordan Rush, and Josh Clouse. The family will receive friends during a visitation on Monday, July 25, 2016 from 1 p.m. until service time at Bethel Baptist Church, Whitewright, Texas. Arrangements are with Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home, Whitewright, Texas.

Joseph Herbert "Joe" Bodine was born May 12, 1929 in Shelby County, Texas to Herbert Lee Bodine and Essie Goins Bodine. He died Monday, May 15, 2017 at Mullican Care Center in Savoy, Texas at the age of 88. Joe married Betty Jo Rich Alexander on February 15, 1957 in Dallas, Texas. Joe and Betty blended their families together and made a home. He was a husband, a father, a grandfather, a great-grandfather, a brother, a Boy Scout Leader, and baseball coach. Joe was an employee of Southwestern Bell for about 35 years retiring in 1982. He later became a Grayson County Justice of the Peace for 15 years. Part of that time he served as the Whitewright City Judge. Joe was active in the Whitewright community for many years. Joe and Betty were selected as Whitewright Citizens of the Year and they also served as Grand Marshall for the Whitewright Parade in 2012. He was a volunteer firefighter with the Whitewright Volunteer Fire Department. He was a member of the Whitewright Masonic Lodge #167 for 60 years. He was active in the Whitewright Ministerial Alliance. He was a long time member and was very active in the Baptist Church. He was greatly loved and will be missed.
