Notes for: Sarah Attillia Eppes

Sarah Eppes was the sister of Anne E. Eppes and the daughter of Charles Eppes and Sarah Edgar Eppes. She and John Oliver Bodine had only one boy and several girls before the untimely death of John. From tradition, John was severely wounded during CSA action near Jonesboro, Georgia and never fully recovered. Per family tradition, he and Sarah were given the old Sanders place as a reward for taking care of John J. Sanders during his declining years. The Bodine Cemetery near San Augustine is located on this old farm.

Sarah was first married to John Oliver Bodine and lived many years as a widow before entering into a second marriage. He did return to San Augustine County after release from the army and lived several years before his death. Per information provided to James Melvin Bodine by Tom Bodine, the second marriage of Sarah was against the wishes of the family because she was drawing a CSA pension as a widow. She lost it as the result of the second marriage.
