Obituary. Austin American-Statesman (Austin, Texas) of 6 Sept 2009.
Nancy Elaine Bodine, 63, of Austin, died unexpectedly at home on Saturday, August 22, 2009. Descended from two pioneering families who came into the Republic of Texas before 1845, she was born in Austin and educated in the Austin Public Schools. She attended Michigan State University under a National Merit Award, St. John's College of Santa Fe NM, and was graduated from The University of Texas at Austin with a Bachelor of Arts degree. She received a Bachelor of Arts in Biological Science with concentration in Plant Biology and a minor in Geography from Sacramento State University CA, and had begun graduate study in biology before returning to Austin in 1997. Her homes in Austin were on Lohmann family property near Waller Creek in the Ridgetop and Hancock areas, which had been the site of Austin's first dairy in the 1850s. Nancy Bodine was baptized at First Southern (now Central) Presbyterian Church in Austin, and together with her family was a charter member of Wilshire (now Genesis) Presbyterian Church. In later years she was affiliated with the Unitarian-Universalist Society of Sacramento, and a member of the choir. Nancy Bodine was a prize-winning quilter, skilled in fine needlework and work with textiles. Her environmental concerns led to vegetable gardening and natural landscaping activities. As part of her interest in genealogy, she compiled extensive material about life in rural San Augustine County where the Bodine family had settled in 1825 along the Ayish Bayou. Nancy Bodine was predeceased by her parents, Willis Ramsey Bodine and Freda Buchan Bodine of Austin. She is survived by her children, Serena Elaine Bodine-Clark of Sacramento; Olivia Carroll Clark of San Diego; Russell Walker Clark (Alexis) of York, PA; and grandchildren, Lucas Marshall Clark and Jordan Lee Clark; by her brother, Willis Ramsey Bodine, Jr. (Anna) of Gainesville FL; and nieces, Elizabeth Bodine Hager (Harry) of Atlanta, GA, and Catherine Lynn Bodine (Mark Kinsella) of Hillsborough, NC; by her uncle, Michael Albert Buchan (Teka) of Dime Box Tex.; and by many grand-nieces and nephews. Cremation and disposition of ashes will be private, under the direction of Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home in Pflugerville, Texas. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to SafePlace, PO Box 19454, Austin, TX 78760; or to the Austin Area Garden Center, 2220 Barton Springs Road, Austin, TX 78746.

Children: Serena Elaine (1977), Olivia Carroll (1981), Russell Walker (1981).
