Notes for: Mary (Maryken) Bodine

There is a Maria Bodine who along with Gideon Marlatt witnessed the baptism of an Abraham Marlatt, son of Joris Marlatt and Rispe Runien, on May 9, 1734 (b. December 30, 1732). He was baptized at the Reformed Dutch Church of Harlingen, New Jersey. This Mary Bodine is about the only one I have who could have been that Maria Bodine; however, that is only a guess.

Here is some information from Robert Moore:

EVANS

Dave, I've collected in one place all the Evans items in case it gives you any ideas. I had never heard of the idea that Mary Evans might be a Bodine. Is that what you were implying? If so, is there other material besides what is below that substantiates or implies this relationship?

An observation or two: Mrs. Mary Ann Bodine Piper wrote in the early part of her Bodine account that the heirs of Jacob Bodine approved £15 to Sarah Evans. This was an error. It reads Sarah Bodine. She also says that Samuel Evans, called "brother" in John Bodine's Nelson Co. will [true], had land on Simpson's Creek in Nelson Co. I have not yet found any record of deeds in Nelson Co. for Samuel Evans through 1818, nor do I find him on tax lists through 1805. However, I do find a Samuel in the 1810 census (none later). I don't know how or if he really acquired land., so I'll have to check the deed books. I'm using published deed transcriptions, and it could be that something was omitted.

I see from the 1882 atlas that the Bodines were all (with one distant exception) strung along Ky. Hwy.458, which was the road from Chaplin to Taylorsville. This would explain their ties with the McClaskeys and Thomases. C.B. Thomas was on the road to Springfield (Hy. 55), as were two other Bodines. They were all descendants of Cornelius Bodine, so I have an idea that this land was acquired through Cornelius's wife Gilly Robertson. Her father's deeds all show he was on the Beech Fork.

Dear Dave,

I am a descendant of Elizabeth McMakin and Joshua Duncan Jr through their daughter Mary Duncan who married John T. Henderson. Do you have any additional information on Joshua Duncan Jr. Apparently there were two Duncan families in Loudoun at the time and I am trying to determine to which Duncan family my Joshua belongs.I think it may be Samuel. Any help is welcome .

lso my John T. Henderson is the grandson of Samuel Henderson but you did not appear to have made that connection in your famiily tree. As you know, Samuel Henderson married Amy/ Anney Evans, dau. of John & Mary (Bodine ?) Evans so I would have your Bodine line as well. What I would like to know is what proof do you have of a marriage between John Evans & Mary Bodine? I just know that her name was Mary from the will of John and her own will. I am very excited to have this information but would like to know your source for the marriage. I am willing to share what I have on the Henderson line. Hoping to hear from you,

Posey Godfrey

Dear Dave,

I wrote to you some time ago regarding Mary ( BODINE ) EVANS, wife of John EVANS of Loudoun. John and Mary (BODINE) EVANS had a daughter Amy/Anny EVANS born ca 1738 and who died before Jul 1841 at Loudoun Co.,VA... John T. was the grandson of Samuel HENDERSON...

John T. Henderson was born 8 May 1791/2 at Berkeley Co.,VA ( age calculated from obit. record ) ; died 19 June 1855 at Darkesville, Berkeley Co.,VA. John Tole HENDERSON is the son of John and Susannah ( TOLE/TOWLE?TOLL) HENDERSON and he was a mill owner and an Innkeeper. Susannah TOLE was the daughter of Jonathan TOLE, orig. from St. Mary's Co.,MD. John T.HENDERSON'S father, Samuel HENDERSON also had a daughter Margaret who married a Frederick CRIDER. They had a son named John Henderson CRIDER who married Mary Polly SKINNER. I have been trying to locate all of Samuel and Amy HENDERSON'S children for some time. I have been somewhat successful but more needs to be done. I have a lot more HENDERSON information which needs to be published...

Sincerely,

Posey Godfrey
