He was preceded in death by daughter, Juanita Maestas in 1944.

Clayton, N.M. - Jose N. Maestas, 75, died Tuesday.
Funeral Mass were at 10 a.m. today in St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, with Father James Vance, pastor, officiating. Burial was in Clayton Cemetery by Schooler-Haff Funeral Directors.
Mr. Maestas moved to Clayton from Mora, N.M., in 1943. He was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church.
Survivors include six daughters, Sadie Castillo of Muleshoe, Nellie Bodine, and Gloria Lucero, both of Clayton, Amilia Hernandez of Elkhart, Kan., Evelyn Gutierrez of Hutchinson, Kan., and Betty Cerros of Hugoton, Kan.; three sons, Alfonso and Felix, both of Clayton, and Johnny of Albuquerque, N.M.; two stepchildren, Vicki Herrera of Texline, and Gene Archuleta of Clayton; a brother, Ted of Salt Lake City, Utah; one sister, Gertrude Martinez of Monte Vista, Colo.; 41 grandchildren; and 33 great-grandchildren
