Verner Bodine, rubber worker, of New Matamoras, born in Petroleum, W. Va., age 24 on 24 May 1915, son of Lewis M. Bodine & Lydia Lee AND Alice Tharp, of New Matamoras and born there, age 18 on 1 Oct 1915, dau. of Winton Tharp & Eliza Lisk, were married 1 June 1916 by Rev. Geo. C. Westlake.

On 5 June 1917, Verne Bodine registered for the World War 1 draft in Akron, Ohio. He reported he was born 24 Nov 1891 in Volcano, West Virginia, was married, and employed as an inspector by the Youngstown Tire & Rubber Co.

In 1942, Verne Howard Bodine, of Akron, Ohio, registered for the World War II draft. He reported his birth as 24 Nov 1891 in Petroleum, West Virginia, was working for the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company, and his next of kin was Alice M. Bodine. Verne and Alice Bodine are listed as residents in the 1943 Akron City Directory.

Verne Howard Bodine, 65, of 1555 Preston av., died Sunday at his home. Bodine came here from New Matamoras in Washington County about 40 years ago and worked 40 years in the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co.'s steam engineering department. He was a member of the Goodyear Heights Methodist Church, Valley of Canton Consistory, the Goodyear 25-Year Club and was a charter member of Amos H. Englebeck Lodge 751, F. and A. M. Mr. Bodine leaves his wife, Mrs. Alice Tharp Bodine and a son, Lee O., of Akron; his mother, Mrs. Lydia Wheeler of New Matamoras, and a sister, Mrs. Angie Holdren, also of New Matamoras. Masonic services will be this evening at 7:30 in Kesler Funeral Home. Regular services will be in the funeral home Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. Burial will be in New Matamoras on Wednesday. Friends may call in the funeral home tonight from 7 to 9 and Tuesday from 2 to 4 p.m.

Alice M. Bodine, 81, of 445 Canton Rd. Apt. 2, died March 16 at Akron City Hospital after a short illness. She was born in Matamoras, and had lived most of her life in Akron. Mrs. Bodine was a member of the Goodyear Heights United Methodist Church for more than 50 years, the Ellet Grandmothers Club, Ellastar Chapter 565 Order of Eastern Star and the Multiple Sclerosis Auxiliary. She is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Lee O. and Jeanne Bodine, of Akron; granddaughters, Nancy Cochoy, of Akron, Patricia Bodine, Avon Lake, O.; great-grandson, Jarrod Cochoy. Visitation was conducted at Hopkins Funeral Home, 547 Canton Rd., Akron, 2 to 4 and 7 to 8 p.m., Rev. William Seith officiating. Burial Sunday afternoon at Matamoras Cemetery, New Matamoras.
