Laura Emma Berdine was born in Sturgis, Saskatchewan, Canada on Sept. 1, 1919 to Effie Semenick Berdine and Frank Peter Berdine. She lived with her parents in Canada then moving to California with her parents. They then moved to Missouri where she and her brother were both schooled and raised. She attended Stephens College and Missouri State Teachers College. She earned both a Bachelors and Masters Degree. She taught Business Courses for a short time on the college level in Missouri. Her next move was to Castle Rock, Colorado where she began teaching business courses at Douglas County High School. She enrolled at Denver University to continue her education in business, and continued teaching at DCHS. She married Eugene Everitt in 1961. They built a home in Castle Rock where they were both employed. Eugene was a photographer, so they had a photography studio built in Castle Rock, which they both enjoyed. Laura retired from teaching after teaching for over 30 years at DCHS. They enjoyed traveling together to many countries and the USA where they took many photographs. They also enjoyed going to Operas and Symphony until Eugene's passing in January, 1992. After her husband's passing, Laura still enjoyed going with a group of ladies to Central City and the Opera. She continued living in her home with the help and care of a former DCHS student for the last 13 years of her life, Marilou Wilson. In her last year as her health declined, she moved into an assisted living home in Castle Rock. Even though it was not her own home, she enjoyed the other residents and the care she was receiving and most of all the activities were special to her. Laura passed away on December 19, 2017. She was predeceased by her husband, Eugene, her parents and her brother. She is survived by her husband's sister, Nancy (Larry) Richards and family.
