Reverend Milton W. Hopper passed away February 29th, 2012 of natural causes. He was born and raised in Eugene, OR, and trusted Christ as his Savior at age 16. He was drafted into the Navy before his senior year of high school and served in WWII on a minesweeper in the Philippines. He went to Cascade College in Portland on the GI Bill and graduated in 1951 with a degree in speech. While there, he met and married his wife of 60+ years, Dorothy. He then attended Western Evangelical Seminary in Portland, completing a Masters of Divinity in 4 years, while pastoring and leading choirs part time. He then began 40 years of Pastoral ministry with the Evangelical Church, primarily in Oregon. Milton and Dorothy were very involved in music, youth, and missions while pastoring. They raised 5 children, 3 of them school teachers. They retired to Sweet Home in 1992 to be near their son, Steve. In retirement they enjoyed traveling to Mexico and Alaska and completing home improvement projects. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping, and always had a story about one of his adventures. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy, of Sweet Home; 5 children, 10 grandchildren; and 13 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one grandchild. Dorothy Jeanne Hopper passed away June 26, 2015. She was born April 29, 1930 and raised in Spokane by Jim and Dorothy Bodine. She trusted Christ as her Savior at age 14. She graduated from Cascade College in Portland in 1951 with an organ music performance degree. While there she met and married her husband of 60+ years, Milton, in 1951. They spent 40 years serving God in Pastoral ministry with the Evangelical Church, primarily in Oregon. They pastored The Dalles Evangelical Church from 1966-1984, where they raised their family. Milton and Dorothy were very involved in music, youth, and missions while pastoring. Dorothy played piano in church for 65 years. They retired in 1992 and enjoyed traveling. Dorothy is survived by her 5 children, Steven of Dayton, Ore., Liz Laing of Fossil, Ore, Esther Hopper of Ontario, Calif., Daniel Hopper of Post Falls, Idaho, and Martha Rigdon of St. Helens, Ore. There are10 grandchildren, and 15 great grandchildren. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband Milton and one grandchild. A memorial service to be held at Pioneer Evangelical Church, 300 4th St, P.O. Box 185, Dayton, OR, 97114 on Thursday July 2 at 2 p.m. A family graveside will be held at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland.
