BEDFORD -Gerald Matthews, 80, passed away Thursday, April 3, 2008, at a local care center. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 9, 2008 at First Baptist Church, 405 S. Seaman, Eastland. Interment: Corinth Cemetery, Eastland. Visitation was held from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Edwards Funeral Home, Eastland. Mr. Matthews was a 1951 graduate of Hardin-Simmons University, and a proud veteran of the United States Army. He was retired after 36 years of service with TXU. He enjoyed raising cows on his family farm in Eastland after his retirement. He was privileged to serve on the deacon boards of First Baptist Church in Eastland and Birdville Baptist Church in Haltom City. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. He was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Kenneth Mayfield. Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Bonnie; son, Gary Matthews and wife, Peggy of Bedford; daughters, Tammy Ake and husband, Mike of Fredericksburg, Va., and Debra Mayfield of Grapevine; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. GRAPEVINE - Bonnie Jane Matthews, 78, passed away peacefully Monday, Oct. 11, 2010, in Bedford. Service: 10:30 a.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church of Eastland, 405 S. Seaman, Eastland. Interment: Corinth Cemetery in Eastland. Visitation: A celebration of Bonnie's life will be held with a viewing 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Bluebonnet Hills Funeral Home. A second viewing will be 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Edwards Funeral Home, 301 S. Lamar, Eastland, 254-672-5231. Bonnie was born July 18, 1932, in Abilene to Roy and Addie and was the second oldest of four. She married William Gerald in Texas on Sept. 19, 1953. They had three children. She attended Hardin Simmons. She was a longtime resident of Haltom City and Eastland. Bonnie was a member of First Baptist Church of Eastland and Birdville Baptist. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family and friends. She was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Ken Mayfield. Bonnie will once again be hand-in-hand with her loving husband, Gerald, who passed away in 2008. Survivors: She will be remembered by her children, Debra Mayfield of Grapevine, Gary and Peggy Matthews of Bedford, and Mike and Tammy Ake of Pensacola, Fla.; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
