Neil L. Bodine, 59, died at Barstow Community Hospital on Monday, Feb. 5, 2007, following a long and devastating battle with Multiple Sclerosis. Neil was born July 27, 1947, in Barstow to Larry and Betty Bodine. Neil attended school in Barstow, graduating from Barstow High School in 1966. Following graduation, he attended the University of Redlands before transferring and graduating from the University of California Berkeley in 1971 with a Bachelor Degree in Biological Sciences. Neil had a brilliant mind and a thirst for knowledge. In 1997, Neil furthered his education by obtaining his Master Degree in Business Administration at the University of LaVerne. Neil began his career as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist in Ventura. After marrying Maureen in 1979 they decided to return to Barstow. Neil began working at Barstow Community Hospital as Clinical Laboratory Scientist and eventually became the lab manager. Neil held this position as the lab manager until illness forced his retirement in 2004. Neil set standards for professionalism and quality. Neil was a valued employee and highly respected by his colleagues. Neil was an extraordinary, fun-loving man who always put the needs of others before his own. Neil cherished his family an enjoyed spending time with them. Neil loved the outdoors, especially boating and water skiing. Every year they would spend their vacations in Lake Havasu, Ariz. Neil enjoyed spending time with his beloved wife, Maureen. They had dedicated dinner and movie dates every week. Neil had a special bond with his kids and grandchildren. "BoBo" will surely be missed. Neil is survived by his wife, Maureen; son and his wife, Sean and Brandee Vizzo; daughter and her husband, Bridget Erik Johnson; son, Ryan Bodine; grandchildren, Kyle, Elyssa, Nathan Vizzo and Gavin Johnson; mother, Betty Bodine; and brother, Danny Bodine. He was preceded in death by his father, Larry. Memorial services for Neil L. Bodine will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 9, 2007, at Mead Mortuary, 36930 Irwin Road.
