The Rockaway Record of 26 Nov 1931 reported the marriage of Miss Carrie Miller Bodine, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert Bodine, of Franklin avenue to Arnold Smith, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Smith of Flushing L.I. at the Little Church Around the Corner, New York City at noon on Saturday.

WEST DENNIS - Carrie B. ( Bodine ) Smith, 93, a resident of West Dennis, died last Saturday at Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis of respiratory failure. She was the wife of the late Arnold Ritchie Smith. Mrs. Smith was born in Rockaway, N.J. She graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in 1930 before moving to Cape Cod with her husband. She and her husband opened the Garden House Inn in West Dennis. They ran the inn until shortly after World War II, when they founded the first of what would become four Smith's Cape Cod Candle Shops. They were among the first to import Steiff stuffed animals into the United States and the first to pioneer the idea of a Christmas Shop. Mrs. Smith was a congregant of the West Dennis Community Church for more than 60 years, serving in many capacities from board member to fund-raiser. She was a generous contributor to church and community organizations. She is survived by her daughter, Joanna Betts of Spring City, Pa., two granddaughters; four grandsons; and six great-grandchildren. A funeral will be at 1 p.m. tomorrow at the West Dennis Community Church, Main St., (Route 28), West Dennis. Burial will be private. Memorial donations may be made to Heifer International, P.O.
