Notes for: Richard ("Dick") Eldon Bodine

From Ronny Bodine:

Obituary, The Herald Journal (Logan, Utah) of 29 June 2002.
LOGAN - The loving family of Richard E. Bodine lost so much more than a husband, parent and grandparent on June 26, 2002. Dick was our rock and best friend. It was only his physical heart that failed him with a sudden heart attack. He was born on Jan. 30, 1942, in Effingham, Ill., to Charles (Lewis) and Velma Devore Bodine. He married Judy Haas in 1964. They were later divorced. He married the lucky Patricia Herbert in 1986. Dick was proud to serve in the U.S. Air Force from 1959 to 1965 and to get the chance to work on the Douglas C-124 C "Globemaster II" as an Airman First Class. He retired from Bourns, Inc., after 20 years as a systems analyst. His passion for cars and auto racing started at an early age when he got the chance to work as a pit crew member. In 2001, he was thrilled to win the coveted Daniel Park Memorial Trophy "Prognosticators Challenge," an ongoing contest between his friends. Dick loved crossword puzzles, Ruth's homemade cookies, The Blue Miata, the bratwurst Road America Raceway and keeping parking lots safe from loose shopping carts. He knew how to laugh at the ironies in daily life. His love for his family was unconditional. He is survived by his wife; children, Michael (Pauline), Jeffery, Bonnie (Dick's Princess) (California), Jeffery (Sarah) Baird, Galen (Logan); six grandchildren; stepdad, William Bonar; brother, Robert (Ruth) and best friend, Dick (Adrial) Chvojka. Following Dick's wishes, the family will hold a private memorial to celebrate his life at the Bonneville Salt Flats.
