Notes for: Catherine Bodine

The marriage of James Sutphin to Miss Catherine Bodine, daughter of John Bodine Esq. of Raritan was reported in the The Hunterdon County Democrat of 30 Dec 1846. In 1850, James and Catherine Sutphin lived in Raritan Township, Hunterdon County engaged in farming. The family included John Bodine, age 10, Catherine's brother. In 1860, the family lived in Chambersburg, Pike County, Illinois. Catherine was recorded as Caroline, but the family included M. Bodine, 18 and Mary Bodine, 16, both servants. This would be Catherine's sisters Melvina and Mary. In 1870, the family lived in Macoupin County, Illinois where James now was engaged as a hotel keeper. Living with the family was John Bodine, age 29, a miller, who was Catherine's brother.

Children: John B. (1848), Elizabeth W. (1849), James (1850), Anna B. (dau, 1854), Mary (1863).
