Luella M. Hiltunen, 70, of Tower, died Saturday, March 15, 1997, at her residence in Tower. She was born Jan. 19, 1927, to Bernard and Lempi (Kultala) Bodine in Soudan. She grew up in Soudan and attended school in Tower. In November 1945, Luella was united in marriage to Toivo Hiltunen. She was a member of the Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tower. Luella is preceded in death by a brother, Alger Bodine ; a sister, Muriel Germek; and her parents. She is survived by her husband, Toivo; two sons, Tom (Sue) Hiltunen of Virginia and Bill (Penny) Hiltunen of Tower; a daughter, Connie Hiltunen of Tower; two sisters, Dorothy Sjoberg and Carol Mae Mattila; a brother, Robert Bodine; and three grandchildren. Private family memorial services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tower, with Pastor Dan Croonquist officiating. Burial will be at a later date. Memorials are preferred in lieu of flowers.

Toivo William 'Bill' Hiltunen, 86, of Tower died Thursday, Feb. 7, 208 in the Ely Bloomenson Nursing Home. He was born Nov. 26, 1921, one of twelve children of Henry and Anna (Knuti) Hiltunen in Vermilion Lake Township. Bill attended school in Embarrass, where he graduated second in his class. He married Luella Bodine in 1945 in Tower. Bill owned the Tower Dairy for many years until an eye disease took his eyesight; but he continued to work at the Dairy until his retirement. He enjoyed reading, listening to sports on the radio, good jokes, and spending time with his family. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Luella in 1997; four sisters; and three brothers. Bill is survived by a daughter, Connie Hiltunen of Chisholm; sons, Bill (Penny) Hiltunen of Tower and Tom (Susan) Hiltunen of Virginia; sisters, Helia (John) Murphy of Oklahoma City, Okla., Margaret Hiltunen of Duluth, Evelyn (Robert) Hendrickson and Edna (Herbert) Lamppa both of Tower; grandchildren, Patrick and Heidi Hiltunen both of Hibbing, Tom (Dana) Hiltunen of Britt; great-grandchild, Tye Hiltunen of Britt; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. MEMORIAL SERVICE:11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 15, 2008 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Tower. A gathering time for family and friends will be held for one hour prior to the service at the church.
