In 1910, Martha Bodine lived with and worked as a servant for the family of Lloyd Rawlings in Richland Township, Shelby County. On 5 June 1917, Eli Skidmore registered for the World War 1 draft in Shelby County. He reported he was born 27 Feb 1893 in Findley, Illinois, that he worked as a restaurant porter in Mattoon, Coles County, was married, and supported his parents. During World War I he served as a Private with Company K, 22nd Engineers in France where he developed influenza and pneumonia and was discharged Jan 1919. By Jan 1920, Eli Skidmore was divorced and apparently within several years, after Dec 1921, he married Martha Bodine.

1940 Ridge, Shelby Co., IL: Eli SKIDMORE 47, Martha 49 IL wife, Eva Mae 10 IL dau, Danniel HARRIS 18 IL step-nephew, Betty 12 IL step-niece. Residence 1 April 1935: Same place.

In 1942, Eli W. (initial only) Skidmore registered for the World War II Draft as a resident of Shelbyville, Illinois stating he was born 27 Feb 1893 in Moultnig Co. IL and Martha Skidmore was his next of kin.
