Notes for: Raymond Eugene Bodine

Ronny Bodine and I discussed the fact that the obituary below names "Mary Waters" as Raymond's mother. It seems that the person who provided the obituary information in 1994 was misinformed. Ronny said, "Here are the facts. When Eli registered for the WW1 draft in 1918, Hazel was named as his wife, just as she was in Jan 1920. When Hazel died in March 1929, her death certificate noted she was married and Eli Bodine was her husband. In April 1930, he was a widower and when he died in June 1949, he was still a widower. There is no place for Mary Waters. I thought perhaps he got his grandmother Mary mixed up in this. Was she Mary Waters instead of Mary Writemire? No, every record said she was Mary Writemire."

However, Ronny did then find a second wife for Eli. She was Leona Bates and also predeceased her husband. It was not a Mary Waters. The Mary Waters, named in the 1994 obituary of Raymond Bodine as his mother, cannot be reconciled with the fact that Eli remained married to Hazel Lyman Bodine until her death in 1929.
