In 1900, the family lived in Walnut, Bureau County, Illinois where William worked as a day laborer. In 24 years of marriage, William reported that his wife had borne 5 children of whom 4 were then living. In 1930, Clara Bodine, age 72 and now a widow, lived in Walnut, Bureau County with three of her unmarried children. Clara (Carr) Bodine was the daughter of Andrew J. and Helen (Huntley) Carr.
