Services will be Saturday for John Bodine, who died Sunday at Dominican Hospital in Santa Cruz. He was 54. He was a native of Yakima, Wash., and a resident of Scotts Valley and the Santa Cruz area for more than 30 years. He was a self-employed building contractor with a career spanning more than 25 years. He was active in the Scotts Valley city government and numerous education committees. He was talented athlete who loved baseball and volleyball. He coached youth soccer league for eight years. Mr. Bodine is survived by his wife of 19 years, Deborah Bodine of Scotts Valley; sons Ian and Alex Bodine of Scotts Valley; father Ken Bodine of Oakhurst; mother Ruby Bodine of Oakhurst; brother Mark Bodine of Scotts Valley; sisters Lila McQueen of Concord and Lynette Curtis of San Jose. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Benito and Azzaro Pacific Gardens Chapel, 1050 Cayuga St. in Santa Cruz. Burial will be private. Contributions are preferred to the educational fund for Mr. Bodine's children, c/o Bay Federal Credit Union Account No. 96405. Benito and Azzaro Pacific Gardens Chapel is handling arrangements.
