Notes for: Vincent Bodine

Vincent Bodine lived in Middlesex County in 1830 and from 1838 in East Windsor Township of newly created Mercer County. In 1850, Vincent's wife was named Elizabeth, age 42, and in 1860 she was Sarah, age 52. It seems likely then her name was Sarah Elizabeth. In 1860, Vincent Bodine was engaged as a carpenter. Vincent Bodine was buried in Perrineville Presbyterian Churchyard, Monmouth County.

The will of Vincent Bodine, of East Windsor Township, Mercer County, written 31 Jan 1867, was proved 15 April 1867 and therein named his wife Sarah, children Elizabeth Jernison, Hart Bodine and Abijah Bodine, and a granddaughter, Mary Brown. Executors were his wife and son Abijah (Mercer Co. Wills D: 511). An inventory of his estate was made on 11 March 1867 and submitted to the Mercer County court by Abijah E. Bodine (Mercer Co. Inventories D: 353). Vincent Bodine died 19 Feb 1867 according to Mercer County death records which name his parents Vincent and Betsy Bodine. Sarah Bodine survived her husband and in 1870, aged 62, and 1880, aged 72, was living in East Windsor Township with her granddaughter, Mary Brown, a school teacher.

Sunday morning, September 18, 1898, at Etra, Sarah Hartman Bodine, widow of Vincent Bodine, in her 91st year. "Aunty Bodine" was a most estimable old lady and held the esteem of every one in the community. She was ill but a few days, from dysentery. Her funeral was from her late residence, with interment at Perrineville.
