On 5 June 1917, Luther L. Bodine registered for the World War 1 draft in Jefferson County, Illinois. He reported he was born 7 Jan 1896 in Mount Vernon, was single, and worked for his mother in farming to support her and his sister. Luther and Dollie Bodine were buried in South Hickory Hill Christian Church Cemetery, Jefferson County. Luther and Dollie Bodine lived all of their married life in Jefferson County.

Mr. and Mrs. Luther Bodine of Route 1, Mt. Vernon will observe their 50th wedding anniversary on Sunday, May 10th. Open house will be held between the hours of 2:00 and 4:00 p.m. Their children will be hosts and hostesses. They are the parents of seven children, Harry Bodine and Robert Bodine, both of Indianapolis, Ind., Dorothy Baker of Kenosha, Wis., Harvey Bodine of Bonnie, Betty Ilberry, Ruth Ann Sledge and Jerry Bodine all of Mt. Vernon. They have 22 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. All relatives and friends are invited to attend. Those attending are asked to omit gifts.

Dollie A. Bodine, 85, Route 1, died 10:50 a.m. May 20, 1988, in her home. Mrs. Bodine was born March 11, 1903, in Jefferson County, a daughter of Redman and Christina (Vaught) Mathus. May 11, 1920, in Mt. Vernon, she married Luther Lynn Bodine, who died Nov 8, 1975. Services will be 1:30 p.m. Sunday at Hughey Funeral Home with the Rev. Buss Hart officiating. Burial will follow in South Hickory Hill Cemetery. Friends may call after 6 p.m. today at the funeral home. Mrs. Bodine is survived by three sons, Harry Bodine and wife Wanda and Jerry L. Bodine all of Mt. Vernon, and Harvey D. Bodine of Irvington; three daughters, Betty Lou Ilbery of Centralia, Mrs. Don (Dorothy E.) Baker of Texico and Mrs. Eddie (Ruth Ann) Brooks of Mt. Vernon; 21 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Everett Mathus and wife Lois of Mt. Vernon; and two sisters, Mrs. Jim (Anna) Baxter of Mt. Vernon and Mrs. Roy (Mary) Capps of Moline. Mrs. Bodine was a member of Jolly Neighbors Club and Jefferson County Home Extension. Mrs. Bodine was a Baptist. Mrs. Bodine was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; one son, Robert Bodine; one infant daughter; two grandchildren; three sisters; and three brothers.
